Before you start twitching in disagreement let me just tell you that this list of hightop sneakers is in no particular order. We’d be here until the cows came home if it was. So…
Raf Simons High Top
What can we say about these bad boys that hasn’t be said before? Exactly. Let’s focus on the Velcro colorways: cloth design, embroidered and lettered to suit your tastes, all with different concepts for the Spring/Summer collection. You may notice that we are using an older version of their high top. Why? we’re just not sold on the new black lace-up high top. It looks like you’d be strangling your feet in a mobile S & M dungeon. The RS high tops are fast becoming a firm favourite of celebrities all over the world.
Ye old faithful. Never get old the older they get and move with times – a popular choice for men rocking skinny jeans. Classic design, worn by everyone that’s anyone, comfortable, affordable and sticking two fingers up in the face of Nike…well, until Nike went and bought them out that is. Punk rock? Not so much now with Nike at the helm and they might not last as long as other brands but hey, is that not what punk is all about? Is it better to burn out than fade away? Depends on the individual we suppose.
Simple but elegant. No fancy stuff. The GATs truly are the new baller’s balling sneakers. It’s all about easy-going enjoyment and although you should look towards keeping them for display purposes only we dare you to try and do that when the sun is shining and your feet are screaming for them like a baby in need of its bottle. GATs are probably our favourite but hey, we are not here to influence you!
Our Second favourite (ha) and like the converse chucks they never lose their style or meaning. On the run from competitors since 1969, the Superstar has been one of the major influences in the sneaker culture. Let’s face it-any shoe worn by the legendary Kareem Abdul Jabbar deserves to be kicking its way onto this list. The rubber shell toe piece and extra thick laces have also been a staple accessory for rappers since the early 80’s. Now that’s old-skool.
We feel like we are cheating by including these seeing as the converse chucks are technically Nike but on the other hand we believe we would be cheating you guys out of a really cool and iconic choice of shoe if we didn’t mention them. They are classics no matter what your opinion of the Nike Brand is. It’s all about roots. The low leather LE shoe is a classic low top that commemorates basketball’s pre-desegregation all-black teams. Surely this means it’s a true original? Comfortable and great on the street, the vandals have to be given a shout.
